One word ...
Dragons
Still not convinced??? Okay
"Lots and lots of Dragons!!!"
Whew, tough crowd. Okay, here are some other reasons then why this is the best show you could watch right now:
1. Budget
It is an age-old fact that money makes everything better. Got something bad ... just throw some money at it; Got something good? throw more money and make it better.
The original game of thrones series had a way smaller budget than this; this shows in the landscaping, characters, writing and direction. In contrast, House of the Dragon is being built on the success of the original series and the budget is incompably larger. Just take this comparison of tourneys during Robert's reign and that of Viserys I.
Sure, Culture Crave espouses a different reason but we all know what's up.
Either way, get ready for a season filled with the best 3D imagery, CGI and attention-to-detail you're ever likely to see.
2. An actual ending
The year was 2019, and a journey of over eight years was coming to an end. 7 seasons, impressive casting, a story that had hooked the entire world ... then season 8 dropped and ruined it all.
I was disappointed with season 8, you were disappointed with season 8. A decline that began the moment they deviated from the source material turned into a steep drop and one of the best TV shows ever made ended with one of the worst endings ever made (almost as bad as "How I Met Your Mother").
There's a general consensus though that Game of Thrones encountered problems when it caught up with the books. The writers finally had free reign and decided to rush headlong into a ditch.
With House of the Dragon, however, there's already a prewritten ending and series of events; this ensures that the series will retain that Martinesque quality throughout its run.
3. Dragons & Targaryens
Did you think I was done pushing this? 👀
Dragons in Game of thrones were small, few and far between. In the House of the Dragon, there are so many running underfoot. Likewise, the Targaryens. At this point in their history, the family is relatively large just like their dragons.
It really makes one wonder what exactly happened to reduce them to the sorry state seen in the Game of Thrones.
Well, that's one more reason to watch because we're going to find out.
